Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack

This Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack game is a variation of European Blackjack. The principle of the game is therefore based on the rules of European blackjack, with some extra subtleties.

The first distinctive feature is the “side bet”, a bet that is parallel to the current game. It is therefore a bet you place in addition to the game. It is called the Hi Lo 13 bet.

It consists in betting after the first two cards are dealt, on the total amount of the latter.

You can bet either on the amount being under 13, over 13 or equal to 13.

European Hi Lo 13 Blackjack and European Blackjack

When you play Hi Lo 13 blackjack, you should not change the way you usually play European blackjack. You simply place your bets normally and, whenever you wish, you place an extra bet, i.e. the “side bet”.

Then, if you win, your profits add up.

This bet is separate from other classic bets in the game. Indeed, the bets are placed apart from the others and the chips are on the left side of the blackjack table.

Specific rules of Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack

Here, you need to take into account the fact that there are rules specific to the blackjack game, and rules used exclusively for the “side bet”.

The rules of “side bet” at Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack

As we saw in the first part of this article, the first two cards are taken into account for the “side bet”.

You then have three options for your bet:

  • The “Hi” wins if the player's hand is over 13.
  • The “Lo” wins if the player's hand is under 13.
  • The “13” wins if the player's hand is equal to 13.

Please note that all the cards in the game keep their value, except for the Ace, which is worth 1 point.

The winnings of this “side bet” are a supplement to your current profits and they are determined as follows:

  • The “Hi” and “Lo” pay 1 on 1 each.
  • The “13”, however, pays 10 on 1.

Rules for blackjack

This version of blackjack is played with two 52-card shoes. The rules of European blackjack are used with this version of Hi-Lo 13 European Blackjack, except for the “side bet” that is added, as we have seen.

Simply, when it comes to payments: a classic victory pays 1 on 1, the insurance pays 2 on 1 and finally the blackjack 3 on 2.

So, 13 may be your lucky number... Why not give it a try? It's your turn!
