The Don't Pass bet

don-t-pass-bet

opposite of the Pass line

The way the “Don't Pass” bet works is the opposite of the “Pass line” bet. Actually, what is valid for the latter is not for the “Don't Pass” bet.

This strategy gives the gamblers the possibility to play against each other and against their bets. Therefore, you can conclude that the Don't Pass bet wins when the Pass line bet loses.

As soon as the craps combination (2 or 3) is obtained with the dice, the player wins up to their bet (see below for 12). Conversely, if the dice give a 7 or an 11, the player loses. This bet allows the casino to have an advantage of 1.36 per cent.

This percentage is a bit lower than the one applied for the Pass line bet and it is therefore not risky, and slightly more advantageous for the gamblers.

The “Don't Pass” bet can be placed only before the first throw, it is not possible anymore afterwards.

Placement on the layout

You should place the chips on the corresponding “Don't Pass” bar.

When the point is determined

In case the point is determined, the player wishes the combination equals 7. If this occurs before the point is made once again, they win immediately. If this is not the case, they lose their bet.

People using the “Don't Pass” bet are in the minority. Indeed, this strategy is actually against the values of craps, i.e. group playing. The players who place their bets in contradiction with the rest of the group will rejoice when the other players make a long face. You can therefore say that you find some happiness in other people's misery.

This strategy remains appealing though, as the chances of profits are higher and the losses are much more limited.

The influence of number 12

Numbers 2, 3 and 12 represent a craps in the “Pass line” bet strategy.

However, with the Don't Pass bet, number 2 and 3 allow the players to win the game, but not number 12. The latter does not have any influence in this type of bet, as the player does not win but they do not lose either. You can therefore notice that the rules are not exactly the opposite of those of the Pass line bet, which allows the bank to keep its small advantage.

Despite this, the Don't Pass bet still remains quite appealing.
